The Evolution of Fashion for Men's Briefs

In the days of yore, when the undergarments were first created, they only served the purpose of hygiene maintenance and provide some comfort to the men. At that time, no one would have thought that even underwear will be worn centuries later to make the fashion statements. The commercial sales of the briefs had already started in the 19th century, but they were hardly advertised or promoted. Even when the promotions for the undergarments began in the early 20th century, the men did not flaunt them openly. Instead of appearing only in underwear, they would photograph themselves fully clothed and holding out the underwear in their hands. But by the mid 20th century, the men became bolder and started promoting the briefs while actually wearing them. Initially, they would wear it with a vest, but later bare-less torsos became quite common. Today, men have no qualms flaunting even the tight undergarments complementing their chiselled bodies.

The undergarments had already become the essential supplements to the outfits by the beginning of the 20th century. However, they were yet too far from becoming the fashion essential. Gradually, with the turn in the culture, and the minds of the people becoming less conventional, the briefs for men also began to make way to the fashion zone.

By 1980s, even the most reputed fashion designers of the world had begun to design new styles of undergarments for men. From boxer briefs to bikini briefs, new undergarments for men were already trending. Today, with the labels of the biggest fashion houses, the briefs have become a fashion essential.
